Mar. 22, 2024 By Bill Parry Detectives at the 113th Precinct in Jamaica are investigating a fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man in Springfield Gardens on Thursday. Police responded to a 911 call of a shooting victim at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center just before 10:30 p.m., where they were met by medical personnel who told them that the victim had been transported there by private means with a gunshot wound to his chest. Advocates call on Mayor Adams to pump funding into city’s human rights agency

Mar. 21, 2024 By Athena Dawson Advocates and elected officials rallied at City Hall last Friday, demanding more funding for the NYC Commission on Human Rights (CCHR).   Rally organizers urged Mayor Adams to increase the annual budget to at least $18 million per year, and exempt the organization from the ongoing city-wide hiring freeze, to get back to a minimum level of operation.
