A Jamaica resident who allegedly beat his 71-year-old neighbor to death has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

Yomar Gonzalez, 38, of 138th Street in Jamaica, was indicted in Queens Supreme Court yesterday for the brutal killing of James Glover on March 17. If convicted, Gonzalez faces up to 25 years to life in prison.

According to court documents, Gonzalez allegedly forced his way into Glover’s apartment around 11 p.m. by kicking in the door. He then struck Glover multiple times with a metal rod, causing his death.

Gonzalez then left Glover’s apartment, who lived a floor below, only to return later and call 911. He was still present, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office, in Glover’s apartment when first responders arrived on the scene.

“This was a senseless act of violence against an innocent septuagenarian in his own home. The defendant is in custody and facing serious charges,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement.

Gonzalez was also indicted on charges of first-degree burglary and criminal possession of a weapon. He was remanded to jail by Justice Pandit-Durant, with a court date set for April 26, 2021.
