A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a turning vehicle on Queens Boulevard on Friday.

Jaipaul Persaud, 55, died Sunday two days after being hit by a driver of a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, as he tried to cross at the intersection of Queens Boulevard and 84th Drive at around 1:40 p.m., according to police.

He was attempting to cross from the south side to the north side of Queens Boulevard – near the marked crosswalk – but was struck by the Hyundai diver, police said. He had the signal to cross.

The driver, a 33-year-old woman, was traveling southbound on 84th Drive when she hit Persaud while making a left turn onto Queens Boulevard.

She struck him with her front bumper, causing him to mount the hood of the car and hit the windshield. He then came crashing down onto the roadway, police said.

Police responded to the scene and observed Persaud on the pavement with head trauma. EMS transported him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he died Sunday, police said.

Persaud lived less than half a mile away from the scene of the incident, on 87th Road.

Police said that the driver remained at the scene and was not injured. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
