A Queens resident was sentenced to 25-years-to-life in prison Wednesday for the 2014 shooting death of man who lived on his block in Jamaica.

Sharif Brown, 37, was convicted by a jury last month for the fatal shooting of Anderson Delgado, 22, outside a bodega on 140th Street in Jamaica on Dec. 27, 2014. He was found guilty of murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon.

The pair lived on the same 140th Street block—and were acquaintances– but got embroiled in an argument that also involved the victim’s brother inside the bodega. Brown and the victim’s brother were friends.

The dispute then spilled out onto the street.

Brown, without warning, pulled out a gun and shot Delgado in the head, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office. The jury was provided with video evidence that showed Delgado firing the weapon. The weapon was recovered from his home, just steps from where the shooting took place.

“Disputes should never escalate to gun violence,” said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. “The defendant killed the victim after a verbal dispute between the three of them and other people. One man is dead and the other has been sentenced by the Court to prison as punishment for his crimes.”
